New Delhi, April 24: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday criticized opposition parties, alleging that they were not serious about engaging in meaningful discussions on the situation in Manipur. His remarks come amid ongoing concerns over ethnic tensions and security challenges in the northeastern state.
Speaking during a public address, Singh asserted that the central government remains committed to restoring peace and normalcy in Manipur. However, he expressed disappointment over what he described as the opposition’s lack of constructive participation in parliamentary debates and policy discussions related to the crisis.
The Defence Minister emphasized that issues as sensitive as the situation in Manipur require collective responsibility and cooperation across party lines. He urged opposition leaders to rise above political differences and contribute positively to efforts aimed at reconciliation and stability.
Singh also highlighted the steps taken by the Centre, including enhanced security deployments, coordination with local authorities, and continuous monitoring of the ground situation. He reiterated that maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of citizens remain the government’s top priorities.
Meanwhile, opposition parties have repeatedly demanded greater transparency and accountability from the government regarding its handling of the crisis in Manipur. They have also called for more inclusive dialogue involving all stakeholders.
The political exchange underscores the ongoing debate over how best to address the challenges in Manipur, even as efforts continue to bring lasting peace to the region.
