Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), the apex body of the Kuki tribes, issued a statement on Thursday condemning an incident in Mulam Kuki Village, Songphel–Mulam area.
According to the KIM statement, villagers reported gunfire at around 1:00 AM on 24 April, followed by an assault at approximately 5:30 AM. The release states that two persons — L. Letlal, 43, and L. Paominlun Haolai, 19 — died in the incident.
The statement further mentions that more than 17 houses were burned and several residents, including women and children, were injured or displaced.
KIM has urged authorities to deploy Central Security Forces in Mulam and surrounding Kuki-inhabited areas, establish permanent security outposts, and initiate investigation into the incident. The organization also called for compensation, rehabilitation, and medical assistance for affected families.The continued threat to the safety of unarmed civilians needs urgent action,” the statement reads. It adds that the Kuki community has “exercised restraint” but warns that further incidents could escalate.
