“President’s Rule will be imposed in Bengal the day any BJP worker is attacked”: Assam CM

Guwahati, April 2026: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday made a strong statement regarding the political situation in West Bengal, warning that the imposition of President’s Rule could follow if any worker of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is attacked.

Addressing reporters, Sarma alleged that BJP workers in West Bengal have been facing threats and violence, and stressed that such incidents would not be tolerated. He asserted that the Central Government would take strict action to ensure the safety and security of party members.

The Assam Chief Minister further stated that law and order is the responsibility of the state government, and failure to maintain it could invite constitutional measures, including the imposition of President’s Rule under Article 356.

His remarks come amid ongoing political tensions between the BJP and the ruling party in West Bengal, the All India Trinamool Congress.

The statement has intensified the political debate, with opposition leaders criticizing the comment as provocative.

Meanwhile, political observers believe that such statements could escalate tensions ahead of upcoming political developments in the state.
