Kangpokpi, April 24, 2026: The Kuki Women Union Sadar Hills has strongly condemned the killing of two Kuki civilians and an alleged attack on Mulam village in Manipur’s Ukhrul district on April 24.
In a statement issued on Friday, the union alleged that the attack was carried out by Tangkhul militants, resulting in the deaths of two individuals identified as Paominlun Haolai and Letlal Sitlhou. The organisation described the incident as a “brutal and cold-blooded act,” stating that the victims were defending their ancestral land and community at the time.
The union also raised concerns over reported incidents of arson, injuries, and displacement affecting residents of Mullam Songphel village and nearby areas. It said the violence had caused significant hardship, particularly for women, children, and vulnerable groups.
Calling the incident a serious violation of human rights, the organisation urged the government and relevant authorities to take immediate action to bring those responsible to justice, ensure the safety of affected villages, and prevent further escalation.
The statement further expressed condolences to the bereaved families and appealed to civil society groups and citizens to work towards peace, justice, and reconciliation in the region.
The Kuki Women Union reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, and ancestral land of its people, while calling for an end to violence.
