Ukhrul, April 30, 2026:
The Kuki CSO Working Committee (WCKCSOs), Ukhrul, has issued a strong statement alleging that despite identifying those responsible for recent attacks in Kuki-inhabited areas, security forces have failed to take decisive action due to political pressure.
In a press release dated April 30, the committee claimed that three months into the ongoing crisis, there is credible intelligence pointing to the perpetrators behind repeated assaults. However, enforcement agencies have allegedly been unable to act effectively, raising concerns over what the group described as a “paralysis of enforcement.”
The statement further accused certain groups and their supporters of spreading propaganda to distort facts and influence public perception, thereby complicating the situation on the ground.
According to the committee, Kuki villages in Ukhrul district have faced sustained and coordinated attacks in recent days. These include a major assault on Mulam–Shongphel on April 24, attempted attacks on multiple villages on April 28, and recurring targeted firing incidents in Mongkot Chepu and nearby areas. The committee emphasized that these incidents are part of an ongoing pattern rather than isolated events.
The situation reportedly escalated further on April 30, when security operations were allegedly directed toward the affected villages instead of those responsible for the attacks. The committee expressed concern over what it termed a lack of impartiality, stating that such actions contribute to a perception that aggressors are being shielded while victims face additional hardship.
Citing a sharp decline in public trust toward both state and central authorities, the WCKCSOs announced the imposition of restrictions on the entry of security forces into Kuki villages in Ukhrul. The restriction will remain in place until what the committee describes as “credible, impartial, and effective action” is ensured.
