Sangaiprou, 12th May 2026, The Department of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of Manipur, on Monday dismissed claims of a fuel shortage in the state, terming them “misinformation” that was misleading consumers.
In an official statement, the Department said it had observed that misleading claims alleging a shortage of LPG and other petroleum products were being circulated.
Quoting the State Level Coordinator of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Imphal, the Department confirmed that there is no shortage of LPG, petrol, or diesel in Manipur. “Adequate stock is available, and supply is being maintained smoothly across the state. Distribution is continuing without disruption,” IOCL has reaffirmed.
Urging the public to remain calm, the Department asked consumers not to panic or resort to unnecessary hoarding of LPG and petroleum products, warning that such actions could lead to accidents and safety hazards.
The Department further cautioned that strict action will be taken against individuals or entities found engaging in black marketing, hoarding, or malpractices in the sale and distribution of petroleum products. The purchase of petrol or diesel in containers or jerrycans is strictly prohibited, and oil pumps or retail outlets violating this directive will face legal proceedings.
Offenders will be penalised under the Prevention of Black Marketing and Maintenance of Supplies of Essential Commodities Act, 1980, the Petroleum Act, 1934, and other relevant laws, the statement added.
