Tension Reported During Bandh in Kangpokpi; Village Authority Condemns Alleged Intrusion

Kangpokpi, April 21, 2026: The South Changoubung Village Authority in Kangpokpi has strongly condemned what it described as “unprovoked and disrespectful actions” by certain volunteers from T. Khullen during the bandh called by the United Naga Council from April 21 to 23.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the Authority alleged that individuals from T. Khullen entered the jurisdiction of South Changoubung without prior consent. The statement claimed that public roads were obstructed, disrupting the movement of residents, and that attempts were made to compel local shopkeepers to shut down their establishments.

Describing the incidents as a violation of the village’s autonomy and peaceful functioning, the Authority stated that coercion and intimidation were unacceptable and could undermine relations between neighbouring communities.
However, the Authority clarified that it holds no hostility toward the people of T. Khullen and does not oppose the bandh itself. It emphasized that its concerns are limited to what it termed unauthorized entry into village territory and alleged threatening behaviour toward residents.
The Village Authority has urged all parties to exercise restraint, respect established boundaries, and maintain peaceful coexistence. It also called on relevant authorities to take necessary measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents and to ensure the safety and rights of all villagers.
