South Changoubung Village Authority Condemns Alleged Intrusion and Coercion During Bandh

Kangpokpi: The South Changoubung Village Authority in Kangpokpi has strongly condemned what it described as “unprovoked and disrespectful actions” by certain volunteers from T. Khullen during the bandh called by the United Naga Council from April 21 to 23.

In a press statement, the authority alleged that individuals from T. Khullen crossed into the jurisdiction of South Changoubung without prior consent or authorization during the course of the bandh. According to the statement, these individuals obstructed public roads, significantly disrupting the free movement of residents in and out of the village.

The situation reportedly escalated further when the volunteers entered the village and attempted to force local shopkeepers to shut down their establishments. The authority termed these actions as coercive and intimidating, asserting that they posed a direct threat to the autonomy, dignity, and peaceful functioning of the village.

“The intrusion into our jurisdiction and the use of force against residents are unacceptable and undermine mutual respect between neighbouring communities,” the statement said, emphasizing that such conduct violates established norms of coexistence.

At the same time, the South Changoubung Village Authority clarified that it harbours no hostility towards the people of T. Khullen and does not oppose the bandh called by the United Naga Council. It stressed that its concerns are specifically related to the alleged unauthorized entry into its territory and the use of threats and force against its residents.

The authority further urged all parties involved to exercise restraint, respect territorial boundaries, and uphold peaceful coexistence. It also called on relevant authorities to take appropriate measures to prevent such incidents from recurring and to ensure the safety and rights of all villagers.
