Imphal: In a significant development aimed at easing tensions and promoting stability, the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) convened a high-level meeting with NTPL/South Zone leaders at Camp Mount Ararat on April 27, 2026. The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Chief Association NTPL, Village Authorities, civil society organizations (CSOs), as well as leaders from Kom, Chiru, and Aimol communities, alongside women leaders.
According to an official statement issued from the council headquarters at Dilung, the meeting involved “prolonged and thoughtful deliberations” on the prevailing situation in the region. After extensive discussions, the delegates collectively arrived at a firm and unanimous resolution to uphold peace and harmony across the Zeliangrong areas.
The statement emphasized that, given the current circumstances, all communities have been urged to refrain from engaging in or escalating any volatile or inflammatory activities. The leadership underscored the importance of restraint, calling on citizens to act responsibly and avoid actions that could disturb communal balance.
Reaffirming their shared commitment, the gathering highlighted the need for fostering stability, strengthening mutual understanding, and safeguarding the tranquility of the region. The resolution reflects what the statement described as a mature and principled stance—one that prioritizes unity, coexistence, and the broader interests of society over division or conflict.
Furthermore, the delegates reiterated their unwavering support for the “genuine issue of the Zeliangrong people,” pledging to continue advocating for it both in the present and for future generations. The statement suggests a long-term vision rooted in collective identity, peacebuilding, and sustained dialogue.
The ZUF’s appeal comes at a time when concerns over tensions in parts of Manipur remain sensitive. Observers note that such coordinated efforts involving multiple tribal and civil society leaders could play a crucial role in preventing escalation and maintaining peace on the ground.
