Kuki women seek PM Modi’s intervention over Biren Singh audio tape, village attack

Imphal, April 29: A group of Kuki women has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging his immediate intervention over a controversial audio tape allegedly linked to former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and a recent attack on a Kuki village.

In a memorandum submitted to central authorities, the women expressed deep concern over the contents of the purported audio clip, which they claim raises serious questions about the role of state leadership during the ongoing ethnic tensions in Manipur. They called for a thorough and impartial investigation into the authenticity of the tape and the statements made within it.

The appeal also highlighted a recent pre-dawn attack on a Kuki-inhabited village, where several houses were reportedly set ablaze and civilians injured. The women described the incident as part of a continuing pattern of violence that has left many families displaced and living in fear.

Condemning the violence, the group urged the central government to take decisive action to ensure the safety and security of vulnerable communities. They demanded accountability for those responsible for the attack and called for stronger measures to prevent further escalation of the conflict.

The memorandum further stressed the need for justice, rehabilitation of affected families, and restoration of peace in the region. The women appealed to the Prime Minister to personally oversee the situation and ensure that the voices of the affected communities are heard.

Manipur has been witnessing prolonged ethnic unrest, with repeated incidents of violence between communities. Civil society groups and citizens have increasingly been calling for urgent intervention by the Centre to bring stability and lasting peace to the state.
