Indian Army Initiates Pilot Program for Home Delivery of Medicines to Veterans in Sikkim

In a major step to enhance veteran welfare, the Indian Army’s Trishakti Corps has launched a pilot project to deliver essential medicines directly to veterans in Sikkim. The initiative, which aims to provide safe, timely, and convenient medicine delivery, is being carried out through the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) Polyclinic in Gangtok, in collaboration with the Department of Posts and CSC e-Governance Services India Limited.

The service primarily targets veterans residing in remote and difficult-to-reach areas. In its first phase, the ECHS Polyclinic has identified approximately 58 beneficiaries in South, North, and West Sikkim, many of whom struggle to collect their medications due to challenging terrain, long travel distances, and mobility issues—particularly among elderly or physically vulnerable individuals.

Officials noted that based on the pilot’s outcomes, the polyclinic plans to extend the home delivery service to all eligible veterans in the next phase. This expansion will improve access to healthcare, ensure uninterrupted treatment, and significantly reduce travel burdens for senior citizens and veterans with physical disabilities.

This initiative is part of a nationwide program under the Central Organisation Ex-Servicemen Health Scheme (ECHS), operating under the Adjutant General’s Branch. It reflects the Indian Army’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the welfare of veterans, ensuring their lives are healthier, safer, and more dignified.
