Guwahati: In what can be seen as a setback to the Manipur government’s ongoing “War on Drugs” campaign, two individuals from the state have been arrested in Guwahati for alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
Acting on credible intelligence, a joint team of the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the West Guwahati Police District (WGPD) and Jalukbari Police Station carried out a search operation at a rented house in Maligaon, resulting in the arrest of two suspected drug peddlers.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Wangjam Mukesh (44) and Premlata Devi (40), both residents of Bishnupur district in Manipur. During the raid, police recovered 12 soap boxes containing heroin weighing approximately 148 grams from their possession.
Police sources said the operation followed a tip-off regarding inter-state narcotics movement from Manipur into Assam. The recovery points to an organized trafficking network operating across state borders. Legal proceedings have been initiated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway to trace the wider supply chain.
