CoTU announces ‘Separation Day’ observance on May 3 in Kangpokpi, calls NH-2 shutdown

Kangpokpi, Manipur:
The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills Kangpokpi, has announced that “Separation Day” will be observed on May 3 in the district. The organisation has also called for a shutdown along National Highway-2 (NH-2) on the same day.

CoTU stated that the observance is aimed at reiterating its demand for administrative separation for tribal communities, particularly the Kuki-Zo people. Various programmes, including public gatherings, memorial events, and prayer services, are expected to be held as part of the observance.

The shutdown along NH-2, a key route connecting Manipur with neighbouring states, has been called as a form of protest to draw attention to the group’s demands. Essential services are expected to be exempted.

The organisation has appealed to the public for cooperation and urged that the observance remain peaceful. Volunteers are likely to be deployed at key points to monitor the situation and ensure smooth enforcement.

Security forces have been placed on alert in Kangpokpi and nearby areas in view of the announcement. Authorities have urged citizens to maintain calm and ensure that law and order is not disturbed.

The announcement comes amid continuing tensions in Manipur, where demands related to administrative arrangements remain a sensitive issue.
