Kamjong: The Eastern Kuki Chiefs’ Association (EKCA) has strongly condemned what it described as a “heinous and barbaric” attack on Kultuh village in Kamjong district of Manipur, in which two civilians were killed and several houses, including a church, were set ablaze in the early hours of Thursday.
In a press communiqué issued today, the association alleged that the attack was carried out at around 4:00 a.m. by armed cadres identified as members of the NSCN (Eastern Flank) and the Shanni National Army (SNA) Junta.
According to EKCA, the attackers allegedly torched seven houses, including the village church, causing extensive destruction to private properties and a place of worship. The association stated that the incident has left the entire community in deep shock and mourning.
The two deceased civilians were identified as Letminlun Haokip, Head Deacon of Kultuh Church, and Lunminthang Haokip, Youth Chairman of Kultuh Church. EKCA described both victims as respected community leaders who had dedicated their lives to serving the church and society.
The association further stated that two other civilians sustained injuries in the attack and are currently undergoing medical treatment.
Condemning the violence, EKCA termed the incident a grave violation of human rights and an assault on the peace, dignity, and security of innocent villagers. It said the deliberate targeting of civilians and the destruction of a church were unacceptable acts that deserved condemnation from all peace-loving people.
The association expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the eternal rest of the departed souls, while also wishing a speedy recovery to those injured in the incident.
EKCA urged the concerned authorities and security agencies to immediately investigate the attack, identify and bring the perpetrators to justice, and take necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of vulnerable villages in the region.
