Diphu: The Karbi Anglong Baptist Convention (KABC), one of the prominent Baptist bodies in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, has strongly condemned the killing of three Kuki church leaders in Manipur, describing the incident as “inhuman” and a grave attack on peace and humanity.
In a press statement issued today, the convention expressed “deep shock, grief, and strong condemnation” over the ambush and killing of Rev. Dr. Vumthang Sitlhou, Pastor Paogoulen Sitlhou, and Pastor Kaigoulun Lhouvum, while several others were also reportedly injured in the attack.
The statement, signed by KABC General Secretary Rev. Kamson Rongphar, said the brutal killing of church leaders had caused immense pain and anguish among the Baptist community in Karbi Anglong and beyond. The organisation noted that pastors and men of God dedicate their lives to peace, faith, and service to humanity, and should never become targets of violence.
“It is profoundly painful and disturbing that men of God and Church pastors, who dedicate their lives to peace, faith, and service to humanity, have become targets of such violence,” the statement read. It further stated that such acts are “unacceptable” and represent a serious assault on the values of peace and shared humanity.
The Karbi Anglong Baptist Convention also appealed to all communities and individuals to maintain restraint and harmony amid the prevailing tensions in Manipur. Emphasising the need for communal peace, the convention urged people not to allow hatred and violence to dominate society during such a difficult period.
“Let us not allow hatred and violence to prevail over our shared humanity,” the statement added while calling for unity, reconciliation, and peaceful coexistence among all communities.
Expressing solidarity with the bereaved families, the convention said it stood in sincere prayer with the loved ones of those killed and injured in the attack. It prayed that God would grant the affected families strength, comfort, and peace as they endure what it described as a time of “deep sorrow.”
The KABC further prayed that justice would prevail and appealed to those responsible for the killings to surrender themselves, repent for their actions, and choose the path of peace and reconciliation. “At this painful moment, let us unite in prayer for peace in Manipur and for healing among all communities,” the statement concluded.
