KANGPOKPI: The Chairman of Taphou Kuki Village Authority, Lenkhomang Chongloi, has submitted an urgent complaint to the Officer-in-Charge of Senapati Police Station seeking immediate registration of an FIR over the alleged detention and disappearance of 23 villagers from Taphou Kuki village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.
According to the complaint dated May 13, 2026, the incident occurred at around 1:30 pm when seven trucks and one Alto car carrying villagers from Taphou Kuki were reportedly intercepted while returning home from work. The vehicles and their occupants were allegedly stopped at Senapati Petrol Pump located at Rikhumai Taphou.
The complaint stated that the incident took place at two separate locations — Senapati Petrol Pump, Rikhumai Taphou, and another point near the entrance gate of Mt. Everest College at Phyamai Taphou. The villagers were allegedly detained, their mobile phones snatched away, and later taken towards Karong.
The village authority further alleged that the incident occurred in the presence of both Central Police Force personnel and the Manipur State Police. The complaint claimed that the vehicles and occupants had initially been escorted by the State Police Force, but were subsequently “snatched away” by volunteers of the Senapati District Students Association (SDSA) along with local residents.
Describing the matter as extremely urgent, the village authority appealed to the police to immediately register an FIR and take necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of the detained villagers and their vehicles. The complaint stressed that the detained persons are daily wage labourers and expressed apprehension over their safety, stating that their lives were “at stake.”
The complaint also enclosed a list of the detained individuals, numbering 23 in total. Among them were elderly persons and minors, including Chonglam Chongloi, 65, Lhingkhochin Chongloi, 68, and Hengunsei Chongloi, aged 16.
