Guwahati, April 23, 2026:
The Indian National Congress has intensified its preparations ahead of the crucial vote counting for the Assam Legislative Assembly election, scheduled for May 4, by deploying dedicated monitoring teams across the state.
According to party officials, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has constituted seven special teams to oversee the counting process and ensure transparency. These teams will be stationed across key regions and districts that went to polls earlier this month.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to tighten vigilance during the sensitive counting phase. The teams have been assigned multiple responsibilities, including monitoring strong rooms where Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are stored, coordinating with party candidates and local units, and visiting counting centres before and during the process.
Senior Congress leaders have been deployed region-wise to supervise operations, covering areas such as Upper Assam, North Bank, Central Assam, Barak Valley, Lower Assam, and the Bodoland Territorial Region.
The Assembly election recorded a high voter turnout of around 85.96%, reflecting strong public participation. The counting on May 4 will determine the composition of the 126-member assembly and shape the political future of the state.
Congress leaders stated that the deployment aims to ensure fairness and transparency in vote counting, prevent any irregularities, and strengthen coordination during the final phase.
The move highlights the party’s cautious approach and determination to safeguard electoral integrity as Assam awaits the declaration of results.
