Crackdown in Kakching: Manipur Police Nab Four, Seize Illegal Liquor and Unregistered Vehicles

Manipur Police on January 15 intercepted two unregistered Gypsy vehicles at Pallel Maning Leikai under Pallel Police Station in Kakching district, leading to the arrest of four persons and the seizure of a large quantity of illicit liquor.

Police officials said the operation was conducted based on specific intelligence inputs. The vehicles, which did not have registration number plates, were found transporting a substantial consignment of alcoholic beverages.

The four occupants were identified as Darshung (24), ST Koko (27), Kophamhring (23), and HP Mono (30), all residents of Zaphou Bazar in Chandel district. They were taken into custody at the spot.

During the search, police recovered 219 bottles of 360 ml JO-Ei Soju and 685 cans of 500 ml Chang beer. The two Gypsy vehicles used to transport the liquor were also seized.

Officials said the arrested individuals are being questioned to determine the source and intended destination of the seized liquor. Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the incident is linked to a larger smuggling network operating in the region. Police have reiterated that checks and surveillance will be intensified to curb illegal activities, particularly the illicit transportation of liquor across districts.
