Crackdown on Corruption: 32 Public Servants Arrested in 2025, Assam CM Says

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on January 10 said that 32 public servants were arrested in 2025 by the state’s Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on charges related to graft, underscoring his government’s zero-tolerance approach to corruption.

In a post on social media platform X, Sarma said the state would not compromise on integrity in public service. “Seedhi Baat, No Bakwas (straight talk, no nonsense). Assam does not tolerate corruption,” he wrote.

According to the chief minister, the vigilance department conducted 29 trap operations during the year, resulting in the arrests. He described the operations as record interventions aimed at ensuring corruption “cannot raise its head” in the state.

“Extensive traps were laid, officials were caught red-handed, and 100 per cent of cases were chargesheeted. The message is clear,” Sarma added.

Reiterating the government’s firm stance, the chief minister said strict action would continue against officials found misusing their positions.
