Assam is set to unveil the Northeast’s first highway-based emergency landing strip, as announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The facility, situated along the Dibrugarh-Moran stretch of the National Highway, is slated for inauguration in February.
Speaking at an event in Khowang, Sarma revealed that the Centre may plan a high-profile launch, with the Prime Minister or Defence Minister expected to attend.
Spanning 4.2 km in Moran, the advanced landing strip will be capable of supporting both civilian aircraft and Indian Air Force fighter jets, such as Sukhoi and Rafale.
In addition to serving as an emergency landing site for Dibrugarh airport, the strip will strengthen both strategic and civil aviation capabilities in the region.
