Mulam Village Comes Under Armed Attack; Injuries Reported

Ukhrul, April 24, 2026: Mulam village in Manipur’s Ukhrul district reportedly came under a full-scale armed attack in the early hours of Friday, according to a statement issued by the Mulam Village Authority.

Initial reports indicate that a gunshot was heard near the village around 1:00 AM, though it did not immediately raise alarm. However, at approximately 5:30 AM, suspected militants allegedly launched an unprovoked and premeditated assault, involving heavy and indiscriminate firing. Several homes were reportedly set ablaze during the attack, leaving multiple individuals injured.

Authorities confirmed that two severely injured persons have been rescued so far, while reports suggest additional unverified injuries and one suspected fatality.

The incident marks a significant escalation in recent tensions in the area. Earlier incidents include reports from April 19, when armed individuals allegedly entered Mulam village land and fired blank shots at farmers, causing panic. A follow-up confrontation later that day reportedly involved gunfire, though no casualties were recorded. Another firing incident on April 21 further heightened fear among residents.

The village authority stated that these repeated acts have disrupted daily life and created an atmosphere of fear and intimidation. Despite this, the community has maintained restraint and called for peaceful resolution.

An urgent appeal has been made to authorities in nearby areas, including Toungou and Sirarikhong, seeking immediate intervention to prevent further escalation. The statement also urged the government to take swift action, warning that delays could result in more loss of innocent lives.
