The Kuki community, under the leadership of the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), solemnly observed the 22nd Remembrance Day at Martyrs’ Cemetery in Phaijang, Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi District.

The event honored those who sacrificed their lives in past struggles, with prayers, wreath-laying ceremonies, and heartfelt tributes marking the occasion.

Demonstrating its commitment to humanitarian efforts, the Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights (KWOHR) also launched the fifth phase of Jangnadop, an initiative aimed at supporting victims of the ongoing conflict.

The entire district came to a standstill as businesses, private institutions, and educational establishments closed in solidarity. A significant highlight of the day was the Public Consultative Meeting, where key community leaders deliberated on pressing issues and the future course of action.

In a powerful address, CoTU General Secretary Lamminlun Singsit reiterated the community’s determination, declaring that the struggle for justice “cannot be silenced.” During the gathering, CoTU unveiled an Eight-Point Declaration, reaffirming its resolute demand for Separate Administration.

The declaration outlined the community’s steadfast stance on achieving this goal through continued mobilization, restricted access to Kuki areas, and unwavering political resistance. It also called for the retraction of the Manipur Governor’s remarks against Separate Administration, opposed any arrests of Kuki volunteers, and warned against forced peace measures.

A defining point of the declaration was the unequivocal demand for Separate Administration in the form of a Union Territory with a legislature—an assertion that the Kuki people regard as non-negotiable.

The Remembrance Day observance underscored the community’s collective resolve, blending tribute with renewed political determination as the struggle for a distinct administrative framework continues.
