Over 10 kg meth seized in Aizawl, four arrested including Myanmar national

Aizawl, April 16: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, authorities in Aizawl seized over 10 kilograms of methamphetamine and arrested four individuals, including a Myanmar national.

Officials said the operation was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs. The raid led to the recovery of approximately 10.02 kg of methamphetamine, suspected to be in tablet form, from a locality within the city.

Among those arrested are individuals believed to be part of an inter-state and cross-border drug network. Two of the accused are reportedly from Assam, while one is a foreign national from Myanmar. The fourth is suspected to be a local accomplice involved in the transportation and distribution of the contraband.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the seized drugs were trafficked through routes linked to Myanmar and were likely intended for distribution beyond Mizoram.

All four accused have been booked under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and have been produced before a local court.

Authorities stated that further investigation is underway to uncover the larger network behind the trafficking operation, as efforts continue to curb the rising menace of drug smuggling in the region.
