Manipur CM reviews progress of Imphal Railway Station, Jiribam–Imphal rail project

Imphal, April 14, 2026:
Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Tuesday reviewed the ongoing construction of the Imphal Railway Station at Yurembam and assessed the progress of the ambitious Jiribam–Imphal railway project.

During the inspection, the Chief Minister was accompanied by senior state officials and engineers from the Northeast Frontier Railway. He examined key components of the project and received detailed briefings on the status of construction works.

Officials informed that the 111-km-long railway line connecting Jiribam to Imphal has made significant progress, with major engineering works such as tunnels and bridges nearing completion in several sections. The Chief Minister also visited critical construction sites, including important tunnel segments, to review on-ground challenges.

Emphasizing timely execution, the Chief Minister directed all concerned agencies to accelerate the pace of work while maintaining quality and safety standards. He stressed the need for better coordination among departments to meet project deadlines.

The railway project, targeted for completion by 2028, is expected to provide the first-ever rail connectivity to Imphal. Once operational, it will link Manipur’s capital to the national railway network, significantly boosting trade, connectivity, and economic growth in the region.

The Jiribam–Imphal rail line is considered a landmark infrastructure initiative that will enhance mobility and strengthen integration of Manipur with the rest of the country.
