The Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), Ukhrul, has expressed outrage over relentless threats, violence, and inhumane conditions affecting students amid the ongoing conflict in Manipur’s Ukhrul district. The organisation condemns the repeated targeting of school‑going children, describing it as a breakdown of basic human values and security assurances.
On March 24, 2026, a grave incident occurred at *Indira Gandhi Hill Flower School*. Innocent children and staff were attacked during the morning session by Tangkhul militants who had set bunkers 250 metres from the school premises. Explosives and stray bullets fired into the compound left both students and teachers severely traumatised. Due to the crisis, the school had already been forced to split sessions because of low attendance and staff shortages, highlighting a blatant disregard for children’s safety.
The same day, students of *Blossom English School* were ambushed between Tingpibung and Leplen while returning home after a one‑month matriculation examination. The armed Tangkhul militants subjected the examination‑stressed students to life‑threatening violence, compounding fear and insecurity.
Despite reporting these incidents, authorities have responded with silence and inaction.
Following the March 24 attack, Indira Gandhi Hill Flower School shifted classes to a village church in an attempt to secure students, but even this measure failed. On April 7, 2026, students returning from morning classes were again targeted by firing, endangering their lives.
The KSO urges concerned authorities to act immediately:
– Ensure safety and security for all schools and students.
– Remove militant presence near educational institutions.
– Take stringent legal action against those responsible for the attacks.
The organisation asserts that children deserve a peaceful, secure environment to learn and grow, and the government must act decisively to uphold their fundamental right to education and safety.
