Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described the Union Budget 2026-27 as “human-centric” and a major step in strengthening India’s economic foundation through bold reforms. Presented yesterday in Parliament by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the budget was called historic by the Prime Minister, who said it would accelerate the nation’s reform agenda and long-term growth.
Speaking after the budget presentation, Mr. Modi highlighted that the proposals aim to energize the economy, empower citizens, and provide India’s youth with new opportunities to achieve their aspirations. He referred to the government’s ongoing reform agenda as the “Reform Express” and said this budget would give it renewed momentum.
“The path-breaking reforms in this budget give the bold, talented youth of aspirational India the open skies to soar,” the Prime Minister said. He emphasized India’s ambitions on the global stage, stating that 140 crore Indians are determined not only to remain the fastest-growing economy but to become the world’s third-largest economy swiftly.
Mr. Modi noted that sunrise sectors, infrastructure, and capital expenditure received significant support in the budget, benefiting young people the most through new policy measures and trade initiatives. He described it as a unique budget that balances fiscal discipline and inflation control with high capital expenditure and strong growth prospects.
