Recent incidents across India have renewed concerns over the state of religious freedom guaranteed by the Constitution. A Christian pastor was allegedly assaulted inside a church in Odisha, with a video circulating online showing harassment by a man identified as a Hindu extremist. In Chhattisgarh, Hindu nationalist groups vandalised Christmas decorations at a shopping mall on December 24, 2025, chanting nationalist slogans. These events add to a long pattern of reported attacks on Christian communities, including church vandalism, disrupted prayers, social boycotts, and intimidation. Critics argue that while Articles 25–28 of the Constitution guarantee freedom of religion, repeated incidents and public silence risk eroding these rights in practice, raising questions about equal protection, minority safety, and the everyday meaning of constitutional values in India.
