Nation Pays Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on His 78th Death Anniversary and Martyrs’ Day

The country today commemorates the 78th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, coinciding with Martyrs’ Day. A Sarva-Dharma Prarthana was held at Gandhi Samadhi, Rajghat, New Delhi, to mark the occasion.

President Droupadi Murmu paid homage at Rajghat, joined by Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who also offered floral tributes at the memorial.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah honored Gandhi on his death anniversary, highlighting on social media that Bapu “united a nation divided by language, region, and caste,” expanding the freedom movement. He also praised Gandhi’s vision of a prosperous India through Swadeshi, independence, and cleanliness.

Every year on 30th January, India remembers Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring legacy as the guiding light of the freedom struggle. The day also serves as Martyrs’ Day (Shaheed Diwas), honoring all those who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence and unity.
