At the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, the International Solar Alliance (ISA) highlighted India’s achievements in delivering affordable solar power to millions of households and farmers.
Speaking at the event, ISA Director General Ashish Khanna pointed to India’s Surya Ghar rooftop solar scheme, which targets 10 million homes, and the PM-KUSUM programme, which supports solar-powered irrigation for farmers, as practical models that other nations can adopt to expand electricity access and strengthen agriculture at low cost.
Mr. Khanna also emphasized the role of AI and digital technologies in shaping the future of energy. He noted that these innovations can cut costs, enhance efficiency, and create new employment opportunities. Plans are reportedly underway for a global AI mission for energy, to be hosted by the ISA.
Financing was another key topic. While global energy investments reached $2.1 trillion last year, Mr. Khanna stressed that this needs to grow to $3–4 trillion, with a stronger focus on long-term, affordable funding for renewable energy.
The 56th Annual WEF Meeting, held from January 19–23 in Davos, brings together nearly 3,000 participants from over 130 countries under the theme “A Spirit of Dialogue.”
