Allegations of corruption and procedural lapses have emerged in the implementation of rural development schemes in Kaliabor, Assam, particularly under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). Irregularities are reported in an earth-filling project at the Uttar-Puwathoriya Gaon Panchayat, sanctioned for Rs 7.97 lakh in 2024–25. Locals claim the work is substandard and funds may have been misappropriated, violating technical norms and MGNREGA guidelines. Residents are demanding an independent probe and stricter accountability from the Panchayat and Rural Development Department to protect public funds and restore trust.
