JOTSOMA: Novo from Haflong, Assam, emerged as the winner of “Ticket to Hornbill – India’s Biggest Band Battle 2025” after a spectacular grand finale at RCEMPA, Jotsoma. The event brought together some of India’s most promising independent bands in a thrilling display of musical talent and creativity.
The winning band, Novo, comprising Thanghoulien Lienthang (Vocals), Jason Zote (Drums), Rothienghlim Zote (Guitar), Deepjyoti Das (Guitar), and Winsome Tariang (Bass), wowed both judges and audiences with their electrifying performance. Their dynamic stage presence and tight instrumentation earned them the top prize of ₹20 lakh and a coveted performance slot at the upcoming 26th Hornbill Music Festival in December 2025.
Juxtaposed from Bengaluru claimed the 1st Runner-Up position, winning ₹10 lakh, while Akhanda from Sikkim was named 2nd Runner-Up and received ₹5 lakh. All three finalists delivered powerhouse performances that showcased the diversity and energy of India’s vibrant independent music circuit.
The event also recognized individual excellence with special musician awards for Best Keyboardist: Akhanda (Sikkim), Best Drummer: Novo (Assam), Best Bassist: Juxtaposed (Bengaluru), Best Guitarist: Akhanda (Sikkim), and Best Vocalist: Stereo Groove (Nagaland).
Additionally, leading music brands honored standout performers with Choice Awards. The Sennheiser Choice Award went to Thunder’s Cave (Meghalaya), while the Ibanez Choice Awards were presented to SoHumble (Delhi) and Mood Station (Mizoram).
Organized by the Task Force for Music & Arts (TaFMA), Government of Nagaland, and presented by Bhikharam Chandmal–North East, the competition reinforced TaFMA’s vision of making Nagaland a national hub for music and creative arts.
The grand finale was judged by an esteemed panel comprising Mrinmoyee Goswami, Booma, Obed Kath, and Subir Malik, with the live audition panel featuring Wati Imchen, Akhito Kinimi, Mhademo Ennio, and Obed Kath.
Celebrating both musical excellence and cultural expression, “Ticket to Hornbill 2025” highlighted the collaborative spirit of India’s music community, setting the stage for a memorable Hornbill Music Festival later this year.
