The Village Volunteers, Eastern Zone (VVEZ), Kuki-Zo-Gam, on Sunday expressed “strong disappointment” over reports of a proposed visit by the Chief Minister of Manipur to Tengnoupal district.
In a press statement dated April 13, 2026, issued from the Office of the Village Volunteer Eastern Zone, the group reiterated its “firm and unwavering position” that no Meitei individual will be permitted to cross the buffer zone between Kangpokpi (Meitei Land) and Tengnoupal district (Kuki land) until the Government of India “officially acknowledges the separation between Kuki land and Meitei land and fulfils our demand for Separate Administration in the form of a Union Territory with a legislature.”
Addressing Mr. Khemchand and associates, the statement said, “Tengnoupal is not Kangpokpi. Here, the Kuki people stand firmly united, and any attempt at intimidation or coercion will be met with resolute resistance. The pressure tactics used in Kangpokpi will not prevail here.”
Citing “prevailing ground realities and the sentiments of the people,” the VVEZ warned that any insistence on proceeding with the proposed visit despite the warning “may lead to serious and unavoidable consequences.” The statement added that responsibility for any such outcome “will rest entirely with those who choose to ignore the concerns and position of the people.”
