Kuki Women’s Union Opposes Replacement of Central Forces in Churachandpur

Churachandpur, April 14: The Kuki Women Union Thangting Block has strongly opposed any move to withdraw Central security forces from P. Gelmol village under Kangvai Sub-Division in Churachandpur District and replace them with state forces.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the union expressed concern that replacing Central forces with personnel from the state police, particularly Meitei Police, would not restore peace but instead create fear among the Kuki-Zo community in the area.

The organisation urged the Ministry of Home Affairs and the state government to reconsider the proposal, reportedly put forward by members of the Meitei community. It emphasized that the safety and sentiments of the local Kuki-Zo population must be prioritised.

The union further demanded that Central forces continue their deployment in P. Gelmol village until complete normalcy is restored.
