Ukhrul, April 11, 2026:
A large-scale combing operation was carried out on Saturday by a joint team comprising the Manipur Police, Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, and the Indian Army in the Mongkot Chepu and Sikibung areas of Ukhrul district.
The operation was launched following an incident on April 10, where an exchange of fire reportedly occurred between suspected armed groups in the region. During the incident, a BSF personnel, identified as Constable Mithun Mandal, sustained a bullet injury while on duty at Mongkot Chepu village. He was evacuated to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
According to a statement issued by Ukhrul Police, an FIR has been registered at Litan Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act, and an investigation is currently underway.
In response to the killing, security forces launched a coordinated combing operation early on April 11, between 5:00 am and 10:00 am, aimed at apprehending those responsible.
During the operation:
21 bunkers were destroyed
11 empty ammunition cases were recovered
Extensive search, area domination, and sanitisation exercises were conducted
Authorities stated that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle militant infrastructure and prevent further unlawful activities in the region.
Ukhrul Police have urged residents to remain calm and cooperate fully with security personnel as operations continue.
