The PA Sangma International Medical College and Hospital (PIMC), a constituent unit of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) observed the 9th death anniversary of former Lok Sabha Speaker and Meghalaya’s former Chief Minister, Late Shri PA Sangma, with a solemn floral tribute and commemorative speeches in his honor.
At the occasion, the USTM Vice-Chancellor Prof. GD Sharma expressed deep gratitude to Late PA Sangma for his instrumental role in enacting the USTM Act in 2008. Remembering him as a visionary leader, Prof. Sharma highlighted his dedication to fostering education and empowering young minds. The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Padma Shri Dr. Sarbeswar Sahariah, Pro Vice-Chancellor of USTM; Prof. Dr. Abhinandan Das, Principal of PIMC; and Dr. RK Sharma, Advisor to USTM.
Faculty members, doctors, students, and staff also gathered to pay their respects. Prof. Sharma also acknowledged the support of the current Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Shri Conrad K Sangma, and his team for their continuous encouragement towards the university’s growth and development.
Late PA Sangma was a towering figure in the Northeast, having served as a Member of Parliament nine times. He was also the Speaker of the 11th Lok Sabha from 1996 to 1998, leaving a lasting impact on Indian politics and the region’s progress.
