US President Donald Trump has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to join a proposed “Board of Peace,” an initiative aimed at working toward long-term peace in Gaza. The invitation was conveyed through a letter sent by Mr Trump to Mr Modi, which was later shared on social media by the US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor.
In the letter, President Trump said it was an honour to invite the Indian Prime Minister to collaborate on efforts to stabilise the Middle East and pursue a new approach to resolving global conflicts. The “Board of Peace” was announced as part of the second phase of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Israel and the militant group Hamas had agreed to Mr Trump’s peace plan in October. Washington has positioned the proposed board as a new international body intended to promote peace and stability in Gaza and the wider region.
President Trump’s letter to Mr Modi also referred to his September 29 announcement outlining a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict, along with a 20-point roadmap for peace in the Middle East. The plan includes proposals to transform Gaza into a deradicalised, terror-free zone that would no longer pose a threat to neighbouring countries.
