On January 9, Sikkim’s Lok Sabha MP, Indra Hang Subba, met with Harsh Malhotra, the Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, in New Delhi to discuss the status of ongoing national highway projects in Sikkim, managed by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).
During the meeting, Subba raised concerns about the slow pace of several highway projects in the state, particularly the delays affecting connectivity and development. He specifically highlighted the slow progress of National Highway-510, especially Packages V and VI in the Gyalshing district.
Subba emphasized the critical importance of NH-510, both strategically and for regional development. He pointed out that the highway’s timely completion is essential for improving connectivity, stimulating economic growth, and enhancing public convenience in the district and nearby areas. He urged the minister to intervene personally to address the obstacles and ensure the project is completed on schedule.
In response, Malhotra assured Subba that the issues raised would be given careful consideration. He reaffirmed the Union Ministry’s commitment to strengthening road infrastructure in Sikkim and the wider Himalayan region, and pledged to work on overcoming implementation challenges to expedite progress on the key highway projects.
