Shillong’s New Football Academy to Kick Off with Open Trials, Says Meghalaya FA

The Meghalaya Football Association (MFA) has announced plans to establish a dedicated football academy in Shillong, aiming to create a structured grassroots system for the state.

The proposed MFA Academy will prioritize long-term player development, offering systematic training and a clear pathway for young footballers to progress from age-group levels to senior football. The association emphasized that the academy is designed to strengthen Meghalaya’s presence in both state and national football competitions.

Open trials for the academy will be held on February 6, 2026, at the MFA Turf, Third Ground, Polo, starting at 9:00 am. Boys born between 2013 and 2016 are eligible to participate. Participants are required to report on time and bring a valid birth certificate for age verification. For further details, interested candidates can contact 9863097780 or 9863771858.

While Meghalaya already hosts several football academies under clubs and private organizations, the MFA’s own academy is expected to directly align talent identification and development with the state team’s requirements. Officials believe this initiative will help create a consistent pipeline of skilled players, supporting Meghalaya’s ambitions for a stronger presence in Indian football.
