U.S. forces have conducted a third round of retaliatory airstrikes in Syria, killing a senior militant linked to a deadly attack on Americans last month.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said the strike occurred in northwest Syria and targeted Bilal Hasan al-Jasim, an Al-Qaeda–linked leader with direct ties to the ISIS gunman responsible for the December 13 ambush in Palmyra.
That attack left two U.S. soldiers and an American civilian interpreter dead.
CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper said the operation underscores Washington’s commitment to pursuing those who threaten U.S. forces and citizens.
The airstrikes are part of an ongoing campaign known as Operation Hawkeye Strike. Since the December attack, U.S. forces and their partners have struck more than 100 ISIS weapons and infrastructure targets across Syria.
