Renowned Assamese Singer Samar Hazarika Dies in Guwahati

Samar Hazarika, a celebrated Assamese singer and the youngest brother of Bharat Ratna awardee Bhupen Hazarika, passed away on Tuesday morning at his residence in Nizara Par, Guwahati. He had been battling age-related health issues and was recently admitted to a city hospital.

Born to Nilakanta and Shantipriya Hazarika, Samar Hazarika made notable contributions to Assamese music through numerous albums and films. His melodious songs earned widespread acclaim, enriching Assam’s cultural heritage.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma mourned his demise in a post on X, stating that Hazarika’s soulful voice significantly enriched the state’s cultural life. He highlighted Hazarika’s role in preserving and promoting the musical legacy of his brother, Bhupen Hazarika, including his involvement in the celebrations of Bhupen Hazarika’s birth centenary.

With his passing, Assam has lost one of its cherished voices. He is survived by his family and countless admirers across the state.
