Quarry Collapse in Mizoram Claims Life of Manipur Worker, Two Others Trapped

A sudden quarry collapse in Sihphir Neihbawih, Mizoram, on the afternoon of January 9 claimed the life of one worker and left two others trapped under rubble, prompting immediate rescue efforts by local villagers.

The incident occurred around 3:30 PM at a quarry operated by Pu Lalchangliana. Without warning, a mass of rocks fell on the workers. While two workers managed to flee, they were caught by falling debris before they could fully escape.

Muana, a worker from Manipur, succumbed to severe injuries despite receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital. A second worker is currently being treated at Synod Hospital in Durtlang for his injuries.

In addition, two non-Mizo laborers working at a nearby quarry owned by Rody Zothanmawia were also trapped when the collapse occurred. Villagers from Sihphir quickly launched a rescue operation to free the workers, with efforts continuing into the evening.
