Five prisoners escaped from the Morigaon district jail amidst the festivities during the intervening night on Friday. The escapees, identified as Saifuddin, Jiarul Islam, Nur Islam, Mafidul, and Abdul Rashid, were all under trial for offences related to the POCSO Act.
They reportedly broke the iron rods of their barracks and used blankets, bed sheets, and other materials to scale the nearly 20-foot-high jail walls. The incident unfolded at around 2 am, prompting a swift investigation led by local authorities, including the Superintendent of Police of Morigaon district. A detailed probe is underway while a manhunt has been launched to recapture them.
