Himanta Biswa Sarma continues to emerge as the clear favorite for Assam’s Chief Minister, securing overwhelming support for another term. A recent opinion poll shows 66.75% of Hindu respondents backing him as their top choice.
The survey, conducted as part of Vote Vibe’s pre-election series, underscores Sarma’s broad appeal across ethnic and social groups, with significant leads among General, OBC, SC, and ST communities. Overall, 58% of respondents expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Sarma-led NDA government.
Among Hindu voters, Sarma’s lead is particularly pronounced, outpacing Congress’s Gaurav Gogoi, who garnered just 25% support. Other contenders, including AIUDF’s Badruddin Ajmal, Raijor Dal’s Akhil Gogoi, and BPF’s Hagrama Mohilary, collectively received only 8.25%.
The poll highlights Sarma’s ability to resonate with diverse sections of society, reinforcing BJP’s electoral strategy ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. Statewide, the NDA government’s performance was rated “Excellent” or “Good” by 58% of respondents, with strong approval from senior citizens, SC/ST, OBC, and General communities—reflecting perceived gains in development and governance.
However, the survey also indicates a clear divergence among Muslim voters, 79% of whom prefer Gaurav Gogoi as Chief Minister.
As Assam moves toward the 2026 elections, Sarma’s dominance in the polls signals confidence for the BJP, even as opposition consolidation around community leaders could influence the final outcome.
