PM Modi to Visit Assam on Jan 17–18, Unveils New Trains and Lays Foundation for Kaziranga Elevated Corridor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Assam on January 17 for a two-day trip, marking his second visit to the state in less than a month, officials announced on January 16.

On the evening of January 17, after arriving in Guwahati, the Prime Minister will witness a grand performance of the Bodo folk dance Bagurumba, featuring around 10,000 artistes at the Arjun Bhogeswar Barua Sports Stadium, an official said.

The following day, January 18, Modi will travel to Kaliabor to lay the foundation stone for the ₹6,957-crore Kaziranga elevated corridor project. The initiative is designed to reduce traffic congestion along the Kaziranga National Park stretch of National Highway-37, improve connectivity, and ensure the safety of wildlife.

During his visit, the Prime Minister is also expected to virtually inaugurate two Amrit Bharat Express trains — the Dibrugarh–Gomti Nagar (Lucknow) and Kamakhya–Rohtak services — before addressing a public meeting at Kaliabor.

This trip comes shortly after Modi’s December 20 visit to Assam, during which he inaugurated the new terminal at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, unveiled a statue of Assam’s first Chief Minister Gopinath Bordoloi, and laid the foundation stone for a ₹10,601-crore brownfield ammonia-urea plant in Dibrugarh. He also addressed public gatherings in Guwahati and Namrup, signaling the political landscape ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.

Officials emphasized that the Prime Minister’s January visit highlights the Centre’s continued focus on infrastructure development, enhanced connectivity, and cultural engagement in the Northeast, particularly Assam.
