Petrol Stations to Remain Closed Indefinitely Following Bomb Attack on Moirang Kumbi Road in Manipur

A bomb blast at Elidas Fuel Station on Moirang Kumbi Road has led petrol pump owners in Manipur’s valley and surrounding areas to announce an indefinite shutdown starting January 10.

The attack, which occurred on January 8, was condemned by the Manipur Petroleum Dealers Fraternity (MPDF), who expressed grave concern over the repeated bombings targeting fuel stations. They stated that such incidents have made it increasingly difficult for dealers to operate safely. The MPDF emphasized that this was the second bombing in just over a month, with a similar attack on a petrol pump on December 6, raising fears of a targeted campaign against fuel retailers.

While the MPDF acknowledged efforts by authorities to enhance security, they argued that the recent blast highlighted the ongoing threats faced by dealers and their staff. The organization stressed that mere assurances were no longer sufficient, demanding urgent action to address the risks.

In a statement directed at the Manipur government, the MPDF declared that it could no longer operate under the current circumstances. They called for stronger security measures for petrol stations, dealers, and employees to prevent future attacks.

Additionally, the MPDF demanded that the government take full responsibility for any future incidents, including bombings or kidnappings, and provide compensation for any damage to fuel station property. The fraternity also called for substantial monetary compensation in cases of injury or death of dealers or staff, along with immediate reparations for the damage caused to Elidas Fuel Station.

With no resolution in sight, the MPDF announced the indefinite closure of all petrol pumps in the valley and surrounding areas, vowing to remain shut until their demands for enhanced security and compensation are met.
