Pawan Khera Criticizes Himanta Biswa Sarma, Says Assam Voters Seek Accountability Over Optics

On January 26, Congress leader Pawan Khera praised Rahul Gandhi for standing with the people of the Northeast during crises, criticizing the BJP for “diversionary tactics.” Sharing photos of Gandhi with Northeastern citizens on X, Khera highlighted his “moral courage” amid alleged government indifference. He cited unrest in Manipur, the unresolved Zubeen Garg case, and the demand for justice by Angel Chakma’s family as examples of systemic neglect.

Khera also targeted Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of focusing on photo-ops rather than governance. He said voters in Assam are seeking accountability over symbolism, calling the BJP’s focus on optics a deliberate distraction. The comments come after Sarma demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi for allegedly not wearing a traditional Northeast ‘patka’ at the Republic Day reception, which Congress dismissed as a diversion from real issues.
