The process for electing the BJP’s national president kicks off today, with nominations scheduled to be filed between 2 PM and 4 PM, according to the poll schedule released by the party’s National Returning Officer and MP, K Laxman. All election activities will be conducted at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi.
Following the nomination filing, scrutiny of papers will take place from 4 PM to 5 PM, and candidates will have until 6 PM to withdraw their nominations. If polling becomes necessary, it is slated for tomorrow, with the official announcement of the new national president expected the same day.
The BJP national president is elected by an electoral college made up of representatives from the party’s national council and state councils.
Currently, the position is held by Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, who was appointed BJP’s National Working President in June 2019 and later elected unopposed as party president in January 2020, succeeding Amit Shah.
