MLA Letzamang Haokip Appeals for Calm After Violence in Ukhrul

Henglep: Letzamang Haokip, Member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly from 57-Henglep (ST) Assembly Constituency, has expressed deep concern over the recent incident of violence at Litan Sarei Khong village in Ukhrul district and urged the public not to give the episode a communal colour.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday, Haokip said the incident reportedly began with a scuffle between local individuals and should not be misinterpreted or projected as a communal clash. He emphasized that Manipur is already passing through an unprecedented crisis and that any such incident only aggravates the fragile situation in the state.

Describing the development as “deeply distressing and unfortunate,” the MLA said violence undermines collective efforts toward restoring peace, harmony, and mutual understanding among communities. He appealed to all sections of society to exercise utmost restraint, shun violence, and act responsibly to protect lives, property, and the delicate social fabric of the state.

Haokip also called upon both the Centre and the State machineries to act swiftly, fairly, and impartially to contain the situation and restore normalcy. He stressed the need to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected villagers and prevent further escalation.
“Let us choose dialogue over discord, compassion over confrontation,” he said, urging citizens to work together in the larger interest of peace and stability in Manipur.
