West Jaintia Hills police, in a coordinated early morning operation on January 20, arrested 18 Bangladeshi nationals and two Indian touts near the India-Bangladesh border. Acting on intelligence, officers intercepted multiple vehicles transporting undocumented migrants from Jowai to Dawki.
Four individuals, including two Indians, were first detained near Amlarem. Subsequent naka checks led to the interception of three more vehicles carrying 14 Bangladeshi nationals. A total of five vehicles were seized, and all detainees are in custody.
A case has been registered under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, and authorities urged local headmen and Village Defence Parties to help prevent illegal crossings. The Superintendent of Police reaffirmed the force’s commitment to border security.
