A special POCSO court in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills has sentenced Kmenlang Sana, also known as Lang Sana, to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment for the rape of a minor. The court also imposed a fine of ₹30,000.
The case began when the child went missing from her residence in Ladrymbai on May 4, 2023. Her aunt, Salbina Dkhar, filed a complaint at Khliehriat Women Police Station on May 6, prompting police to launch a formal investigation under strict provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act.
The investigation, led by Women Police Sub-Inspector L. Siangshai, resulted in a charge sheet filed on October 30, 2023. After examining the evidence during the trial, the court, presided over by Special Judge B Khriamn, found Sana guilty under Section 376AB of the IPC and Section 6 of the POCSO Act.
The Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills, said the case reflects the district administration’s commitment to addressing crimes against children with utmost seriousness.
